Leaves Turn Green ©
Music & Lyrics by Mikio
Listen closely to the Edwing’s guitar solo toward the end of the song that intertwines the vocal adlibbing by Jahsha. Edwing is initially using a 1950’s Fender Telecaster. Somewhere toward the middle of this ending section, the tone of Edwing’s guitar starts to sound like an electric sax (somewhat similar to the electric sax of Dick Heckstall-Smith of the British band Colosseum or the electric sax of Ian McDonald of the original King Crimson Band). Edwing switched to a 1959’s Sunburst Les Paul reissue at this section. The Les Paul has double coil humbuckers (pickups), versus the single coil pickups of the Telecaster. (For solos, Edwing uses the bridge pickup of the Telecaster with the treble control turned all the way up.) We were just experimenting with the ending section and did not purposely include the Les Paul part because it sounded like and electric sax. But, it was cool that it turned out that way.
Around the Corner (Where Rebels Meet) ©
Lyrics & Music by Mikio Sankey
This song is written about those who are centered and focused enough to follow their own heart and for those who dare to take a stance against the programmed minds of the masses.
I wanted to start this song off with a slightly kicked back 1960’s rhythm n’ blues feeling playing the rhythm guitar somewhat like an early “Stax Sound.” This 60-ish R n’ B vibe moves into the next section where I wanted to incorporate a wah-wah rhythm guitar – representative of a certain 1970’s r n’ b groove. But after Edwing added Jean Sudbury playing violin on top of the rhythm wah-wah guitar, it changed the vibe of that section. We then intertwined a rock feeling with the sound of a piercing guitar.
That “specific corner” of your mind is where rebels meet. Are you “one of those rebels?” If you are reading this, you are probably “one of those rebels.”
Around the corner, is what you’re searching for
Around the corner, is what you’re looking for
Around the corner, the answers you will find
They’re buried deep within your mind
You’ve found that open space somewhere in your mind
It’s not the place that most people can find
Sometimes you feel like you’re all alone
It’s not the place where most people call home
True to your center is where you try to stay
Don’t follow others you won’t be led astray
Follow your own dreams don’t go into their trance
Where others fall in line you dare to take a chance
I’m on the outside I never try to hide
Don’t like the places in between
I try to stay awake and not be put to sleep
I’ve found the place for those who dare to leap
This is where rebels meet — around the corner
This is where rebels meet — around the corner
This is where rebels meet — around the corner
A place for those who dare to leap
For once in your life
Free the traps in your mind
Or would you rather play it safe or
Dare to take a leap
Don’t be afraid to peek around the corner
You just might like what you will find
Don’t be afraid to peek around the corner
Around the corner of your mind
Country Girl From New Orleans ©
Music by Edwing, Lyrics by Jahsha
City life ain’t never meant much to me
Never had material worries
I’m just a country girl from New Orleans
Waiting for somebody to discover me
Hoping and a praying that one day you’ll see
I’m just a reggae city country downhome girl
Never dreamed of being on picture screens
Cotton things makes me pretty and feel fresh clean
I’m simple like the mountains after rainy day
No million dollar must my baby pay
Hoping and a praying that he comes my way
I’m just a reggae city country downhome girl
Simple as a girl can be
A city boy don’t bother me
Don’t understand what they see
Big glamorous life stress make believe
City life ain’t never meant much to me
Never had material worries
I’m just a country girl from New Orleans
Waiting for somebody to discover me
Hoping and a praying that some day you’ll see
I’m just a reggae city country downhome girl
Simple as a girl can be
A city boy don’t bother me
Don’t understand what they see
Big glamorous life stress make believe
The “earthy ladies” that resonate more with nature are free from the pretentious glamour of city life. This is another rhythm n’ blues song with a rock guitar lead.
Gotta Give It Up ©
Music by Edwing, Lyrics by Jahsha
You’re unhappy I can see the look on your face
You’ve been hurt some other kind some other place
Oh baby
You gotta give it up boy
You gotta give it up, give it up boy
You gotta let love show
You gotta show love
Give it up boy
It’s not easy when two people want to be together
We gotta follow love’s rules baby
Even through the toughest weather
Give it up
Baby give it up
Give it up boy
You gotta give it up, give it up boy
You gotta let love show
You gotta show love
Create from the now and give up the past story.
Delilah ©
Music by Edwing; Lyrics by Jahsha & Edwing
One summer day, Delilah she came your way
Play is all she wanted, and you were much too serious
Delilah the deceiver, she loves all men just the same
The games that she plays, break your heart,
break your world and leave you in total dismay
Seems so sweet and gentle, but you were not aware
Her kisses turn to venom, and she stings you everywhere
Play is all she wanted, and you were much too serious
Delilah the deceiver, the deceiver, she loves all men just the same
Delilah is a deceiver, she will spin you around
Take you up, then she’ll leave you
And you’re lost in the wilderness, all your hope is gone
Brought you more, then she delivers you a world
Lost and all alone
This song is a metaphor for the temptations and hell world created from lust. This is a blues-type song.
Dangerous ©
Music by Edwing; Lyrics by Jahsha & Edwing
If you live your life in lust
All your dreams will turn to dust
Rollercoaster round and round
Love picks you up and lets you down
Love is dangerous
Love is dangerous
Is dangerous
Dangerous
Love is dangerous
Is dangerous
Is dangerous
Is dangerous
If you live your life playing games
There will be no one to blame
Deceive you in the brain
Crush your heart
Make you go insane
Tear you apart
Love is dangerous
Is dangerous
If you turn your life to gold
All your friends they will be whole
You trusted in love
Now they let you down
Once you were a prince but now you’re a clown
Love is dangerous
It’s dangerous
Love is dangerous
It’s dangerous
Watch your desires or they might come true.
